By The Canadian Press

A two-year-old child is dead after being found unconscious in a residential swimming pool in Saint-Apollinaire, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers were called to assist paramedics when the child was found in cardiorespiratory arrest on Monday.

“Resuscitation manoeuvres were quickly performed, and the toddler was transported to hospital,” said SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy.

It’s unknown whether the residential pool was surrounded by a fence or a safety gate.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
