An Amber Alert was lifted Monday afternoon, about six hours after two children had been reportedly abducted from Saint-Vallier, east of Quebec City, were found safe.

“The missing children in the Saint-Vallier region have been found safe and sound. Thank you all for your help,” posted the Sûreté du Québec on social media at around 3:30 p.m.

The two-year-old boy and three-year-old girl had last been seen at around 9:30 a.m.

Provincial police spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel says a 40-year-old man is detained and meeting with investigators.

He says the man and children were members of the same family.

An Amber Alert is set in motion when a child has been reported abducted and is believed to be in danger.
