A 27-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Lachine on Wednesday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) receiving a call at around 7:30 p.m. about the shooting on Duff Court and Esther-Blondin Street.

The victim was on a basketball court, with other people, when a suspect came up to him and shot him at least once in the upper body, explained SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc. The suspect then reportedly fled on foot.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

SPVM say that, “the investigation has identified a potential suspect in this case, who has not yet been arrested by the police. Evidence suggests that the suspect and victim knew each other.”

Police are asking for the public’s help. A command post in the area has been setup and will be there until 5 p.m. on Thursday – in the middle of Roy Crescent, near Duff Court.

The SPVM is also asking anyone with information to call 911 or their local police station – or contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously and confidentially at 514-393-1133 or via the reporting form available on infocrimemontreal.ca.

The death is the 17th homicide in Montreal this year.
