Jean-Pierre Ferland’s national funeral June 1 in Montreal

Quebec singer-songwriter Jean-Pierre Ferland’s national funeral will take place June 1 at Montreal’s Mary Queen of the World Cathedral.

Ferland died April 27 at the age of 89.

The public will be able to pay their respects to the late singer on Friday, May 31, at the Foyer Jean-Gascon in the Theatre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts – starting at 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Ferland was the first Quebec artist to perform at the Theatre Maisonneuve.

Quebecers can also bid Ferland farewell through the online registry of condolences.

The national funeral will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, on René-Lévesque Blvd., but limited seats will be available to the public.

Those attending will have to pass through security checkpoints before entering the church.

An outdoor screening of the ceremony will be held at Place du Canada, where citizens can watch from Peel and De La Gauchetière street.

The public is also invited to wear a yellow accessory in tribute to Ferland’s album ‘Jaune’.

Street closures

The following streets will be closed on June 1, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. in downtown Montreal:

René-Lévesque Blvd. between Robert-Bourassa and Peel;

Cathédrale between René-Lévesque Blvd. and De La Gauchetière;

Mansfield between René-Lévesque Blvd. and De La Gauchetière;

Metcalfe between Square-Dorchester and René-Lévesque Blvd.
