Hot Girl Social Club: a place for Montreal women to forge friendships

"It brings people who like the same types of events together," said Valerie Choucroun, founder of Hot Girl Social Club, on the Montreal women’s networking group. The club celebrated its one-year anniversary on Saturday. Adriana Gentile reports.

Montrealer Valerie Choucroun is the woman behind Hot Girl Social Club.

The goal of the club is to help women make new friends, engage in social activities, and embrace who they truly are by putting themselves first.

On Saturday, the club celebrated its one-year anniversary.

“It’s insane to me that so many people clearly needed this in their lives, needed a community, needed a social club. So, the response has been only positive up until now, and I’m really, really excited to see where that takes us,” said Choucroun.

The group, originally named Hot Girl Walks Montreal, was founded in May 2023, after Choucroun posted a video on TikTok. She was looking for other women to join in on her walks.

Her goal was to meet new women and make new friendships, something that she felt was hard to do in adulthood.

“As a young adult, where are you really meeting people outside of school and work that you have common interests with?” she said.

“I feel like it’s a little bit more difficult to meet people in the wild. So having Hot Girl Social Club, it brings people who like the same types of events together,” Choucron adds.

After posting the video to TikTok, the group quickly grew thanks to social media, something that Choucron wasn’t expecting.

“I did not expect the demand to be what it was. Honestly, seeing the demand that’s been here, it makes me so happy to know that we are able to close the gap for the community and bring it to life because it’s clearly something that was missing in Montreal,” said Choucroun.

Aside from hosting their weekly walks, the group also has a monthly book club, and offers different types of events bi-weekly.

“When we started, I actually only had the intention of being a walking group, and as we were doing the walks, the girls were really interested in trying other activities and were asking me to do event, and I naturally love to event plan so I thought it was just a great organic change, and so we became a social club, but we don’t forget the walks. It’s still our bread and butter and how we became who we are,” said Choucroun.

Some events are free, while others are ticketed, but the club ensures that there is something for everyone.

“I’ve met so many friends through this, also through the Hot Girl walks. We now have our own mini group chat with some of the girls that I really clicked with, and we have our own socials too. We do our own little things. I’ve really made a lot of really good friends through this,” said Kira Cooper, a member of Hot Girl Social Club

Choucroun believes that being a hot girl goes far beyond your physical appearance.

“Being a Hot Girl is a mentality. It’s about doing things for yourself, stepping outside of your comfort zone, coming to an event alone, which a lot of these girls do. It’s so brave, it’s so courageous, and they’re doing it for themselves. It’s an act of self-love in a way and taking care of what’s really important, which is the relationship with yourself,” said Choucroun.

Saturday’s one-year anniversary theme was Denim & Diamonds. Guests enjoyed food, drinks, and fun activities.

“We are starting a podcast, which is going to be really, really fun. Super excited about that. It has been really a big ask, and we’re also working on building something that’s a little bit of a secret right now, but hopefully we’ll let you know in July. So stay tuned,” she said.
