Post a photo, plant a tree: How you can help make Montreal greener with a click of a button

Montrealers can help make the city greener with a simple click of a button on Friday.

Snap a photo of a tree, post it to social media using the hashtag #unephotounarbre, and watch your post “grow.”

“For each shared photo,” the City said in a news release. “A tree will be planted.”

The goal: to plant 20,000 trees.

“It is estimated that $31.4 million is saved each year in health care and for prevented premature deaths,” the City said in the news release. “By absorbing rainwater, trees help reduce the annual water treatment bill by more than 4 per cent, saving $16 million.”

“Not to mention the effect of trees on the reduction of flood risks,” they added.

The City had adopted the 2020-2030 Climate Plan where one of the objectives is to plant, maintain and protect 500,000 trees, primarily in urban heat islands, by 2030.

“Everyone wins the game with a greener environment,” said the City. “One tree at the time.”
