Moving Day in Quebec: housing tribunal available by phone June 30, July 1

By The Canadian Press

As the peak moving period in Quebec approaches, the province’s housing tribunal will remain accessible by telephone on June 30 and July 1.

In a press release released Friday, it states paralegals will be available to respond to requests for information from tenants and landlords from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on those days.

There will be no counter service in the offices. Those will reopen at their normal times on July 2.

“Situations requiring rapid responses may arise during this turbulent time. The Administrative Housing Tribunal will be there to respond diligently to citizens,” it says in the press release.

In Montreal, Laval and Longueuil, concerned citizens can call 514-873-BAIL. In other regions, the number to call is 1-800-683-BAIL

The tribunal says “the right of a new tenant to occupy the premises begins on the first day of the lease. The former tenant does not have any ‘day of grace’ to vacate the premises and remove his belongings from the accommodation. They have the obligation to return the accommodation to the condition in which they received it.”
