Two measles cases reported at Montreal’s Trudeau Airport

Two new measles cases have been confirmed in Montreal in the last month.

Montreal Public Health is warning of the most recent case, which had exposed travellers at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport.

An infected person was on board an Air Transat’s flight TS403, from Rome that landed in Montreal on July 8 at 3:30 p.m. 

Health officials say the infected person at Trudeau airport on July 8 was in the arrivals and baggage claim section between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and may have come into contact with others.

The infected person reportedly visited two stores in the Montreal area on July 9: the Prima Goccia store in Montréal-Nord between 10:25 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the Nour FX currency exchange office in Saint-Michel between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Another case was recently confirmed to come from a traveller who caught the measles during a trip to Africa. They were on board the Delta Airlines flight DL9288 from Amsterdam that landed in Montreal on July 3. 

Last month, Montreal public health declared the end of an outbreak in the city.

According to the Quebec Health Ministry, since the start of 2024, there have been 51 confirmed cases of measles reported in Quebec, including 23 of them in Montreal, 12 on the South Shore, five in Laval.
