By News Staff

A suspect was charged with first-degree murder in connection to a fatal drive-by shooting in Montreal’s Little Italy back in February.

Nestor Miguel Pintos Chew, 35, appeared at the Montreal courthouse Wednesday afternoon to face the charge.

On Feb. 17, several gunshots were heard near the intersection of Bellechasse and Saint-Denis streets at around 12:15 a.m.

The 28-year-old victim, identified as Jean Brandon Celestin, was discovered with serious gunshot wounds at the scene. Police who arrived at the scene tried to resuscitate him, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. It was the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

He was arrested on April 11 by the SPVM’s major crimes unit for discharging a firearm the day before his arrest.

He’s remained in custody ever since.

The criminal investigation from Feb. 17 is ongoing.
