Extended heat wave in effect for Montreal

By News Staff

Montreal is in for a hot week ahead, with an extended heat wave in the forecast.

A hot and humid air mass is currently affecting much of Quebec with maximum temperatures expected between 30°C and 32°C and overnight lows above 18°C.

Humidex values of 35 to 39 are expected Monday afternoon and Tuesday.

Despite a brief break in the heat Wednesday due to showers, the heat will return on Thursday and continue until Friday with humidex values of near 40. Heat and humidity may also persist through Saturday.

Temperatures could be even hotter in urban areas.

Quebec’s Health Ministry recommends people stay hydrated and drink plenty of water even before feeling thirsty. They should also aim to spend time in air conditioned and cool spaces.

Limit physical activity and never leave a child or a baby alone in a vehicle or a poorly ventilated room, even for a few minutes.

People are also urged to check in on neighbours and loved ones, especially seniors, people who are disabled, or living alone.

Remember that heat can also affect the health of your pets.
