Severe thunderstorm watch underway in Montreal

Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for the Montreal area, as possible thunderstorms may be underway alongside large hail and heavy rain.

“This afternoon and this evening, conditions will be favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and heavy rain,” reads the special statement. “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.”

On Thursday, Environment Canada predicts a mix of sun and clouds with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon. The high will be 30 degrees feeling more like 39 with the humidex.

Montrealers will see sunny skies on Friday with a high of 31 degrees and a low of 22.

Heat and humidity may persist through the weekend.

On Saturday, cloudy skies with a high of 29 and a low of 22. Possible showers in the afternoon.

The weather agency predicts a 60 per cent chance of showers on Sunday, with a high of 29 and a low of 17.
