Man charged in connection to Ville-Marie borough arsons

Montreal police say a 59-year-old man has been charged in connection to a series of arsons in the Ville-Marie borough.

The SPVM says between July 29 and August 1, garbage containers and a vehicle had been set on fire.

Around 3:35 a.m. on Aug. 1, officers patrolling the community reportedly found a man believed to be linked to the fires.

Police add at the time of the arrest, officers also saw the man allegedly setting a garbage container on fire behind a building on Crescent Street.

SPVM says the fires are not believed to be linked to organized crime and an investigation into a possible connection to other incidents is under way.

The 59-year-old has since been charged with five counts of arson and property damage.
