Man’s body found in Montreal’s Olympic Basin

A 20-year-old was found dead in Montreal’s Olympic Basin at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

At around 7:45 p.m., calls were made to 911 after the young victim’s friends found his hat floating in the water of the Olympic Basin, a rowing and kayaking site on Île Notre-Dame.

Montreal Police confirmed his body was finally recovered shortly after 9 p.m., he appears to have drowned, according to initial reports.

The SPVM has transferred the file to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy will be carried out to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death.

The incident, coincided with the last day of Montreal’s Osheaga music festival.

“We learned of the death of one of the festival-goers last night, following his departure from the site,” Evenko told CityNews, in an email. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic death and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of this young man.”

“We are cooperating with the SPVM investigation currently underway in connection with this sad event,” they added.
