53 roads still flooded, damaged after Tropical Storm Debby in Quebec

Quebec’s Transport Ministry is still trying to get 53 roads that flooded or have been damaged by Tropical Storm Debby last week – back in use for motorists.
Several road closures and obstructions will remain in place for a while.
Some of the more affected aresa include the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Mauricie and Outaouais.
A portion of Highway 13 between Highway 40 and 520 in Montreal is still closed due to mass water accumulation.
However, Public Security Minister François Bonnardel said on Wednesday morning that Highway 13 would reopen on Thursday – that’s the plan he explained.
Workers said that the flood seriously damaged the pumping system and the electrical system in the tunnel.
Drivers are being forced to take several detours.
Transport Quebec recommends that road users avoid the area and use public transit – or work from home if possible.
In addition, the mayor of Montreal North, Christine Black, said on Facebook that Lacordaire Blvd. was still closed to traffic due to water accumulation.
On Wednesday, she updated the situation, writing, “the water in the pump room has been evacuated, and our teams are assessing the state of the equipment (pumps and control panels) to determine the extent of the work. We are currently draining the underground reservoir with a 12-inch pump.”
She adds that a signage plan is being validated with an engineer specialized in the field to allow traffic on the east side of the boulevard, with one northbound and one southbound lane. “We hope to be able to open the lanes tomorrow.”

SAAQ Road Safety Tips
The SAAQ has provided a few pointers for motorists who get stuck in a flood:
1. Do not attempt to start a flooded vehicle, it must be towed or transported from the area.
2. Do not stay in a flooded car, it may cause health problems due to mold or other bacteria in the materials. Also, mechanical failures can pose safety risks.
3. Flooded vehicles are prohibited from being back on the road.
