Driver gets stuck in floodwater on closed Highway 13, road should reopen Thursday to motorists

By News Staff

The driver of a van got stuck on Highway 13 in Dorval after moving construction cones that were blocking access to the road on Tuesday night.

Remnants of Tropical Storm Debby left several roads flooded in Montreal last week and Highway 13 between the 40 and 520 has been closed since Friday.

The driver got stuck as he tried to cross the floodwater that covered the road around the Dorval tunnel – but he became trapped.

He was later rescued with help of Transport Quebec, alongside a tow truck.

The driver was issued several tickets.

Highway 13 remains closed, should reopen on Thursday

On Wednesday, Highway 13 was still closed between Highway 40 and 520 – at the Dorval tunnel.

Transport Quebec said it hoped to have it reopened today, but now the Public Security Minister says it should open on Thursday. It’s still unclear at exactly what time that would be.

Workers said that the flood seriously damaged the pumping system and the electrical system in the tunnel.

Drivers are being forced to take several detours.

Transport Quebec recommends that road users avoid the area and use public transit – or work from home if possible.

Motorists should consult the Quebec 511 website for the latest information and updates.
