Montreal under heavy rainfall warning

Environment Canada issued two special weather alerts for the Montreal area about possible severe thunderstorms and heavy rain on Wednesday – and around 5 p.m. the rain came down.

“Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain,” reads the statement. “The cells are affecting the eastern part of the island of Montreal and are moving towards Chambly.”

They add that large hail can damage property and cause injury. “Avoid driving through water on roads.”

By 6 p.m. the thunderstorm alert had ended.

The second statement says that “heavy rainfall is possible with isolated thunderstorms.”

“Heavy rain could cause local flash flooding and may affect structures, roads and buildings already weakened by last week’s events. Please stay alert in case of heavy rain. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.”

The forecast for the day, a high of 29, but feeling like 36 with the humidex.

Clear skies expected Thursday with a high of 29. Humidity levels will reach 37 degrees.

Mix of sun and clouds on Friday, with a high of 28 and a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Rain returns for Saturday and Sunday, with highs of 21 and 24 degrees.

Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance for wet weather again on Monday and temperatures below average for this time of year, a high of 22 possible.
