Precautionary boil water advisory for some Montrealers, after water main break

By News Staff

Montreal issued a preventive boil water advisory for the boroughs of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles, as well for Montréal-Est.

This all comes following a major water main break that happened around 6 a.m. near the Centre-Sud sector, around the Jacques-Cartier bridge.

“Agglomeration crews are currently mobilized on site to repair the pipe,” wrote the city in a press release.

The areas affected by this precautionary boil-water advisory are south of Sherbrooke Street, between Alphonse D-Roy Street to the west and Pointe de l’Île to the east.

City of Montreal spokesperson, Philippe Sabourin, says it should remain in effect until at least Saturday.

“Residents of areas affected by the boil water advisory must boil their water for at least one minute before drinking or brushing their teeth. Unboiled drinking water may be used for hygiene or other domestic purposes,” said the release.

“This warning is in effect until further notice. As soon as the situation is restored, a notice of return to normal will be issued.”

People whose homes have been flooded by the water main break and who need help can go to the Accès Montréal office of the Ville-Marie borough, located on the first floor of 800, boul. de Maisonneuve Est.
