Quebec Liberals: MNA Frédéric Beauchemin to join leadership race

After several months of reflection, Quebec Liberal MNA Frédéric Beauchemin is expected to launch his campaign for the party’s leadership. The announcement is set for Friday in Trois-Rivières.

The information first reported by Radio-Canada was confirmed by The Canadian Press.

The Marguerite-Bourgeoys MNA has already received support former Quebec Finance Minister Carlos Leitão and from one of his colleagues in the caucus, Chomedey MNA Sona Lakhoyan Olivier.

Beauchemin will become the fourth candidate to throw his hat in the ring to succeed Dominique Anglade. Other aspiring leaders are former Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec CEO Charles Milliard, former Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, and tax lawyer Marc Bélanger.

Federal Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez is still reviewing his decision.

The race officially begins in January 2025 and the new Liberal leader will be chosen next summer.
