Woman charged in death of 5-year-old in Coteau-du-Lac

Quebec provincial police say a woman was charged with first-degree murder in the death of a five-year-old boy in a home – about 55 kilometres west of Montreal.
The 29-year-old woman was arraigned in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield late Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities would not confirm the accused’s relationship with the victim and there is a publication ban on both identities.
The boy was found unresponsive inside a home in Coteau-du-Lac after emergency services were called at about 3 a.m.
He was declared dead shortly afterwards.
Police say two other people inside the home were also taken to hospital – including the suspect.
The child’s cause of death has not been revealed.
Crime scene technicians were dispatched to the scene on Wednesday, while investigators will seek to meet with anyone who saw the child in the last 24 hours.
The woman is due back in court on Friday.
