French President Macron to visit Montreal, Ottawa

France’s President Emmanuel Macron will be making his second visit to Canada later this month.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office confirmed Thursday, that Macron would be in Ottawa and Montreal on Sept. 25 and 26.

Macron’s visit will reportedly be to discuss matters shared by Canada and France, including peace, security, and collective defence.

Part of that discussion will include efforts to support Ukraine in its ongoing defence against Russia.

Additionally, both political leaders will discuss growing threats, which includes disinformation.

While in La Belle Province, Macron will be given a tour of Canada’s innovation and skilled workforce in science, research, and technology, especially in artificial intelligence.

“France is not only one of Canada’s most important allies, but also one of its closest, with our shared history, culture, and values. I look forward to welcoming President Macron to Canada to continue our important work, advance our shared priorities, and build a more peaceful and prosperous future for people on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Trudeau in a statement. 

Trudeau this visit comes a month before both countries promote French language and the Francophonie’s institutions in the Sommet de la Francophonie which will be taking place in France.
