Montreal police (SPVM) arrested a man in connection with a bank robbery that took place in Saint-Leonard on Sept. 28.

Police say the 36-year-old suspect allegedly entered a bank around 3:18 p.m., on Viau Blvd., and brandished a firearm, while ordering an employee to give him cash.

The suspect then fled in a vehicle that SPVM say he had stolen two days earlier, following an altercation in a warehouse in Anjou.

“The suspect was apprehended in Saint-Leonard two days later, on Sept. 30. A search of the stolen vehicle in his possession also resulted in the seizure of a firearm, ammunition, and other evidence,” reads a press release.

According to the SPVM, the suspect had been living in a halfway house since August 2024 and appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Tuesday to face charges of robbery and breach of conditions as well as several counts of possession and use of a firearm.

“He will be transferred to a penitentiary to serve the remainder of his sentence, pending the next stage of legal proceedings for the bank robbery event,” added police.
