Poll in favour of Pablo Rodriguez: Quebec Liberal Party says it senses enthusiasm

By Patrice Bergeron, The Canadian Press

Encouraged by the latest Léger poll, the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) says it feels enthusiasm in its favour among the population.

According to the survey published in Québecor media on Wednesday, a PLQ headed by former federal minister Pablo Rodriguez would be first in voting intentions, but if an election were held now, it would be the Parti québécois (PQ) that would form the government.

The needle would move if Rodriguez is chosen to lead the PLQ when the race ends in June 2025.

The Rodriguez-led Liberals would garner 28 per cent of voting intentions, against 26 per cent for the Parti Québécois, while the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) would come in just behind.

“We can see that there’s a lot of excitement, people are following the next race with great interest,” commented Liberal leader Monsef Derraji.

He reacted cautiously, without favouring one candidate over another, given the duty of neutrality imposed on him by his role as a parliamentary officer.

However, he did say that on the ground, rooms were packed with supporters at a dozen regional meetings.

If a general election were held right now, the poll shows the PQ winning – which polls have seemed to continuously show almost since the Jean-Talon byelection they won.

Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s party would win 32 per cent of the vote, against 24 per cent for the CAQ, 17 per cent for the Liberals with Marc Tanguay at the helm, 14 per cent for Québec solidaire and 12 per cent for Éric Duhaime’s Conservatives.
