Man killed trying to save his pet on Highway 10 near Brossard

A man in his 30s died Thursday night after being hit by a car on Highway 10, near Brossard, on Montreal’s South Shore – while he was reportedly trying to rescue his dog.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) received a call at around 8:15 p.m. about a collision.

According to initial information gathered by police, a driver heading eastbound on Highway 10 had pulled over when his dog escaped the vehicle.

The driver then got out of his vehicle and tried to catch up with his pet, which ended up on the westbound lanes.

He was hit by an oncoming vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was from Laval.

A collision investigator was dispatched to the scene and westbound Highway 10 was closed between kilometre 11 and 22. The highway was completely reopened around 11:30 p.m.
