By The Canadian Press

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being the victim of an armed attack overnight in Longueuil, according to police.

Police say the attack occurred on Saturday, around 3:45 a.m., on Grande Allée Boulevard, near Langevin Street, in the Saint-Hubert borough.

When emergency services arrived, “a man in his 30s was found on the ground with serious injuries. The first findings showed that he would have been physically attacked by individuals who had fled before the arrival of the patrol officers,” said François Boucher, a spokesperson for the Longueuil police service (SPAL).

The victim, known to police, was taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.

“The nature and circumstances of this attack remains to be clarified … No arrests have been made to date. The link between the victim and the attackers remains to be established,” said Boucher.

Grande Allée Boulevard has been closed to traffic in this area for an indefinite period.

Anyone with information in connection with this event can contact 911 or Info-Azimut Line at (450) 646-8500 or online.

The SPAL investigation continues.
