Montreal’s Diallo Gabriel Diallo reaches first ATP final at Almaty Open

Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo will play in his first career ATP final at the Almaty Open in Kazakhstan.

The 23-year-old from Montreal, ranked 118th on tour, advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 upset victory over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo during Saturday’s semifinals.

Diallo fired five aces and did not commit a single double fault.

Cerundolo, ranked 31st in the world, had one ace with six double faults.

The six-foot-eight Diallo will face Russia’s Karen Khachanov in Sunday’s final at the ATP 250 event.

Khachanov, 26th in the rankings and the tournament’s third seed, defeated Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4 to advance.
