Third vehicle set on fire in Montreal’s Ahuntsic

By The Canadian Press

A third vehicle in three days was set on fire in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough of Montreal on the night of Sunday to Monday. All three incidents occurred on the same street.

According to authorities, the most recent event took place around 1 a.m. on Monday. Once again, a vehicle was set on fire on de Louisbourg Street, near Grenet Street.

“When firefighters arrived on the scene, they noticed that a vehicle parked on the side of the street was engulfed in flames and that the fire had spread to a second vehicle, parked behind it,” explained Mariane Allaire Morin, a spokesperson for Montreal Police (SPVM).

At the same time, a fire was underway in a trash can on Grenet Street. Another object, not far from the scene, was also on fire.

No suspects were seen at the scene and no incendiary objects were spotted, but “given the circumstances and the recent similar events that occurred in the last two days,” the investigation will be led by the SPVM’s arson squad.

The vehicles were “heavily damaged” by the flames.

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, it was near de Tracy Street, still on de Louisbourg Street, that a vehicle was set on fire. A first similar event took place on the night of Friday to Saturday.

“The investigation to shed light on the three events of the last three days is continuing,” said Morin.
