Nature and mystery have come together for the Halloween season at Montreal’s Botanical Garden.
From an outdoor maze to whimsical creatures now living in their giant greenhouse — all this magic as the 93-year-old world-renown site is set for a multi-million dollar makeover.
“There’s the magic of Christmas, but there’s the magic of Halloween as well,” said Anne-Marie Gagné, spokesperson, educational programs at the Botanical Garden. “It’s really a place also where you can calm yourself, but you can also have fun.”
“You can find what you really need in the garden.”
The City of Montreal recently announced that, over the next 15 years, the garden is set to see $450-million of renovations.
Including becoming more inclusive for people with reduced mobility, more resilient to climate change, and introducing new greenhouses.
Sine January, some of their smaller greenhouses remain closed after glass panes fell.
The main greenhouse — that is now spooktacular — is open and safe. Filled with activities that are set to bring smiles — like how to use a wand, and meeting Kalbacius and Petiole, the sorcerers living among the plants.
Over 900,000 people visit the 75-hectare garden each year — now even exploring the new family-friendly outdoor maze, or their “Même pas peur!” show.
“In the maze, there’s a big shed, kind of shed, and even adult play,” said Gagné. “I see adults playing like children, children enjoying themselves.”
And when the sun goes down, the fun continues with the 12th edition of the Gardens of Light.
About two kilometers of fairytale-like atmosphere awaits — as three cultural gardens are explored.
This jewel in the metropolis is among the most popular gardens of the world.
And ahead of its 100th birthday, the “major transformation” it will undergo is set to help maintain this legacy.
