St-Michel metro station may not reopen for weeks: STM
Following the closure of Saint-Michel metro station earlier this month, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) says it may still be weeks before it reopens.
In a press release on Friday morning, the STM writes that, “In recent weeks, the STM’s multidisciplinary teams have been actively analyzing and seeking solutions to secure the site and renovate the affected structural elements, ensuring a safe reopening of Saint-Michel Station as soon as possible.”
The station was closed on the evening of Oct. 3 as the STM had said significant damage to a main beam located above the tracks forced them to close the Saint-Michel for safety reasons, and subsequently, Fabre and d’Iberville – all on the blue line. The last two were reopened on Oct. 9.

To date, the following actions have been taken, according to the public transit agency:
- Inspection and data collection on-site;
- Design and planning of technical solutions for site security and structural repairs in collaboration with the contractor;
- Definition of the implementation strategy considering the station’s layout;
- Custom fabrication of certain components;
- Procurement and mobilization of the necessary materials for these solutions.
The add that the next step will involve continuing the securing of the site, which will then enable the station’s reopening.
“Additionally, custom parts need to be produced for these repairs, which contributes to the timeline for resolving the situation. Once the station is back in service, structural repair work will continue overnight until the end of the year.”
“The reopening date will be announced as soon as possible,” they explain.

In the meantime, the dedicated shuttle for this section of the blue line continues to operate.
