CAQ MNA for Mirabel Sylvie D’Amours is closing her office for an “indefinite period” due to “security issues,” including shots fired at her office window – which she says police told her were from a possible BB gun.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, she said she wants to “set the record straight” towards her government’s modernization of flood zone maps and asks her constituents not to “panic.”
“My team and I have been subjected to unfortunate incidents such as threats for several years, and this, unfortunately, is the case for many elected officials in Quebec. However, recently projectiles were fired at the window of our offices,” she wrote on social media.
“You will understand that I cannot accept this situation. My office doors have always been wide open to everyone, but I want to protect us. We have the right to work in a safe and peaceful place.”
The government is currently working on modernizing flood zone mapping, which is causing concern. In her message, D’Amours said that “misleading information is circulating, causing panic among Lower Laurentians residents and throughout Quebec” on this topic.
“I therefore wanted to address you today and correct the facts,” wrote D’Amours.
The MNA noted that “the objective is not to relocate residents and citizens of flood zones, but to increase their safety and protect their property while protecting the environment.”
“To ensure the safety and resilience of communities, we must adopt a modernized regulatory framework, based on science and accompanied by mapping that represents the real risks of flooding and allows citizens to know this risk,” she said.
The MNA urges her constituents not to give in to “panic.”
“I ask you, from the bottom of my heart, to remain calm and be respectful towards my staff.”
