Montreal metro shut down for nearly 20 hours

It was a difficult day for Montreal metro users on Friday with service only being restored in the early morning of Saturday. There were multiple delays including the green line being at a standstill for 20-hours.

The tracks between Angrignon and Berri-UQAM stations were shut down starting at 10:20 am on Friday, due to a water main break in the City of Westmount, according to the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).

Then, at 5:45 p.m. an unauthorized person on the tracks caused service on the other portion of the green line to be paused but was quickly re-established.

The stoppage caused by the water infiltration lasted until 5:30 am Saturday.

A shuttle service had been set up between Lionel-Groulx and Angrignon stations.

The Metropolitan Express Network (REM) was also shut down for two hours on Friday afternoon. The interruption, which extended from Panama station to Central Station, was due to poor weather conditions.

Normal service resumed in both directions shortly before 2 p.m.
