Montrealers gather for U.S. election night watch party

Montrealers gathered Tuesday evening at La Sotterenea restaurant in the city’s Mile End for a U.S. election night watch party organized by Democrats Abroad Quebec.

They tracked key races while discussing outcomes, and reflected on the future of democracy.

“I voted for Kamala Harris,” said Molly Gibson, American living in Montreal for two years. “And I was excited to do so.”

“I think this is the most important election ever,” she added. “I feel very passionate about it.”

“I didn’t agree entirely with everything the Democrats did in the last term,” said Yaniko Palis, dual American-Canadian citizen. “But they’re my preferred party, certainly.”

“Go Kamala,” he added.

“The environment is always my number one issue,” said Chris Beaudin, dual American and Canadian citizen. “I know like if Trump wins he’s gonna undo everything.”

“So I think that it’s very important that the democrats win,” he added.
