Montreal police (SPVM) are looking to identify a suspect in a case involving the aggravated assault of a passerby in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough this summer.
On July 4 around 7:55 p.m., police say a passerby north of Sherbrooke Street E. near Lyall Street was talking on the phone while using wireless headphones.
Police say the suspect called the victim, asking if they were talking to them. When the victim said no, the suspect allegedly insulted them in English. The victim responded and continued walking. The suspect then allegedly grabbed the victim and hit them in the back of the neck before fleeing south on Arcand Street, leaving the victim unconscious on the floor.
The victim was hospitalized with major injuries.
The SPVM is describing the suspect as between 25 and 30 years old, five-foot-four, with short black hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black sweater with a blue logo on its front, black shorts with a white logo on the left leg, black sandals with some white on top, and glasses.
