Overnight arson attack marks recent string of reports in Montreal

The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) received a call after midnight for an arson attack on a vehicle on Forsyth Street near 42nd Avenue.

The SPVM said the vehicle was in a parking lot of an apartment complex, near Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough with the car being a total loss.

A spokesperson for the SPVM said a witness provided information that a suspect was seen not far from the vehicle prior to the attack, prompting the reason to believe that this was an arson case.

No cause or reason is known as of yet as the investigation is now transferred to the arson squad where further analysis will be conducted.

This recent attack marks a string of cases involving arson within the last few months in Montreal.

No arrests or injuries were reported, with the owner of the vehicle now being questioned for a probable cause for this attack.

The SPVM spokesperson reminds Montrealers to park their car near a light source, which could discourage those to commit an arson attack. They also remind Montrealers to report any suspicions if any threats are made.
