New Jacques-Bizard bridge open for motorists
The City of Montreal officially inaugurated the new Jacques-Bizard bridge that connects Île-Bizard to Montreal on Wednesday.
The new bridge includes four lanes, a two-way bike path, wider sidewalks, a belvedere in the middle of the bridge, along with a complete reconstruction of the water, sewer, electrical and wiring under the bridge.
The city said their next step is to redevelop Denis-Benjamin-Viger Park, which is located at the end of the bridge in Île-Bizard, in 2025.

“We are proud to welcome the commissioning of the new bridge, which puts an end to months of waiting and challenges for our population,” said Île-Bizard Mayor Doug Hurley. “This modern infrastructure will provide safer daily commutes, revitalize local businesses, and strengthen the strong ties between L’Île-Bizard and Sainte-Geneviève. I express my deep gratitude to all the partners whose collaboration has made this vital and structuring project for our borough a reality.”
The old bridge is now closed for motorists, but pedestrians can continue to use the sidewalk on the west side.
The Jacques-Bizard Bridge is the only link that connects Montreal and Île-Bizard, with close to 30,000 daily drivers.
“The new bridge was built with innovative, quality materials that are well adapted to our winters and will strengthen its resistance to de-icing salts and freeze-thaw cycles that contribute to the degradation of concrete and steel,” said Projet Montréal member Émilie Thuillier. “We are proud to offer the residents of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève a high-quality bridge for the next 100 years.”
