Another strike vote at Hydro-Québec

Members of one of Hydro-Québec’s largest unions voted to initiate pressure tactics up to and including a five-day strike.
The Syndicat des spécialistes et professionnel(le)s d’Hydro-Québec (SCFP 4250), which represents 5,437 employees, voted 98.47 per cent in favour of the mandate on Thursday night. With 3,400 members taking part in the vote.
This vote follows two other strike votes at the utility.
On Nov. 13, the 2,300 members represented by the Syndicat des employé-e-s de techniques professionnelles et de bureau d’Hydro-Québec (SCFP 2000) voted 96 per cent in favour, and the Syndicat des employé(e)s de réseau d’Hydro-Québec (SCFP 5735), representing 195 members, voted 98 per cent in favour.
Hydro-Québec has been negotiating with these unions since January to renew their respective collective agreements.
With over 141,000 members in Quebec, CUPE represents more than 16,000 members in the energy sector. It is the largest union affiliated to the FTQ.
