Suspected arson at depanneur in Verdun

Montreal police are investigating a suspected arson in Verdun that happened on Saturday.

The police were alerted around 3 a.m. to a fire at a depanneur on Bannantyne Street near Riverview Street.

The neighborhood was evacuated as a precaution and the building sustained minor damage.

An incendiary object was found at the scene, according to the police.

The case has been handed over to a special investigation unit for further analysis. The windows were boarded up by the following day on Sunday.

Mangled shelving units and displays that were destroyed by the fire had been removed and placed in front of the store.

No injuries were reported.
