Man in his 50s dies in St-Michel basement apartment fire

A man in his 50s has died after a fire broke out in a basement apartment near Frederic-Back Park in Montreal’s Saint-Michel neighbourhood.
Montreal police say the fire started in the basement of a triplex located on Iberville Street between Legendre East and Louvain streets.
The fire was quickly brought under control and the man was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Based on the preliminary findings, it appears that the fire started accidentally, but a complete investigation is still underway by the SPVM’s arson squad.
