SPVM searches for evidence along Laval river in connection to 2022 murder in Montreal North

Montreal police (SPVM) will be conducting searching on the banks of the Rivière des Mille-Îles in Laval on Tuesday, in connection with a murder that happened in 2022.

According to police, the incident took place on Aug. 10 at 10:25 p.m. when two men were talking in the parking lot of a high school near P.-M.-Favier Ave. and de Charny Street, in the borough of Montreal North.

Two armed suspects then opened fire in their direction before fleeing. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a 26-year-old man with serious gunshot wounds.

Police found projectile impacts in parked vehicles and shell casings on the ground.

The man — identified as Jayson Colin — was pronounced dead in hospital, while the other man suffered injuries. His death marked the 19th murder on the territory in 2022.

No arrests have been made so far.

Police divers were searching the river on Tuesday for possible weapons, to gather evidence in the case.

The search was carried out alongside officers from the Sûreté du Québec.
