The Quebec Minister responsible for Seniors, Sonia Bélanger, says she hopes to present a province-wide home support policy by December 2025.
Currently, over 19,000 people are waiting to receive these services in Quebec and the number continues to rise.
The government plans to officially launch the development of this policy in January. The last policy that regulated this type of care was launched in 2003.
The minister maintains that this policy will make it possible to see more people, to deal with the aging population and to facilitate working with organizations and partners.
Quebec also wants to establish clearer rules to determine the role for CLSCs and similar organizations.
The policy would set the level of funding for home support services as well.
To develop the guidelines for this provincial policy, Quebec will organize consultations and hear from various stakeholders that will be held in mid-January.
According to Bélanger, they’ve identified 60 organizations and partners that will be consulted.
Additionally, the minister promised to solicit First Nations and Inuit communities to adapt services to their needs in the Quebec-wide policy.
