It will be difficult to find gasoline in 2035, Quebec environment minister says

By News Staff

Quebec’s environment minister says people should make the switch to electric vehicles in the next decade because it will be difficult to find gasoline.

Benoît Charette said certain gas stations in Quebec are already closing, calling it a sign of things to come.

Last month the Quebec government tabled a draft regulation aimed at banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles beginning in 2035. Gas cars would still be allowed to circulate on the province’s roads, and used vehicle sales would be permitted.

Charette says the ban should not be considered an anti-car measure, but rather one that is forward thinking based on current trends.

The province’s environment minister says he is confident in Quebec’s ability to make the transition, despite acknowledging challenges like an unstable battery market; the end of subsidies to purchase electric vehicles in 2027; and a protest campaign by Quebec Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime.
