Quebec wants to change the rules for public sector negotiations

By The Canadian Press

The Legault government wants to change the way negotiations take place with public sector unions.

The “negotiation regime no longer has any reason to exist in 2024,” said Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel before question period.

She announced a bill could be tabled to change the rules.

Currently, negotiations are governed by strict rules, with sectoral tables, central tables, a calendar, etc.

The CAQ government has been dealing with difficult negotiations, which have cost the public treasury a lot of money.

Quebec is still trying to reach an agreement with daycare workers.
