Quebec reaches agreement in principle for family-run daycares

By The Canadian Press

Family daycare providers affiliated with the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) reached an agreement in principle with the Ministère de la Famille on Sunday.

The agreement will be presented to the unions at a federal RSGE council next Friday. Members will then be able to vote at the general meetings to be held in the coming weeks.

“Until then, the details of the agreement will remain confidential and no comments will be made,” said the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS-CSN) in a press release.

The agreement in principle with the FSSS covers nearly a quarter of RSGEs.

If accepted, the new five-year employment contract (2023-2028) “will increase the number of spaces, encourage the care of infants (under 18 months) and improve the attraction and retention of those responsible for a family educational childcare service,” said Treasury Board Chair Sonia LeBel in a news release.

It emphasizes that “the government has now reached agreements in principle with 99 per cent of the persons responsible for family educational childcare services with whom it is negotiating.”
