La Banquise makes TasteAtlas’ top 100 legendary restaurants
Day or night, you’ll find lineups of customers waiting to try one of the 35 varieties of poutine at La Banquise.
The Montreal landmark just scored a spot in the prestigious TasteAtlas report, ranking among the top 100 must-see places on the planet. But how did this casual eatery manage to make such a global impression?
“Making the top hundred lists of most legendary restaurants In the world. It’s been really an amazing recognition,” said Vincent White, Marketing Director at La Banquise.

“That list really comes down to the longevity of the restaurant, it goes with the traffic of the restaurant and then the notoriety of their dishes,” added White.
White is pleased to see the Rachel Street restaurant scooped up the 74th spot on the restaurant review site TasteAtlas.
“Taste atlas is kind of like its own restaurant Wikipedia and they’ve got millions of social media subscribers and they’re incredibly popular in Europe. So, for us, I think first and foremost it’s definitely a lot of recognition out of the European clientele,” said White.
The word spread worldwide, which is why clients are coming from all around the globe to try out La Banquise.
Including Heather, a New Yorker, that added La Banquise to her Christmas holiday getaway list.

“That is thanks to our daughter. She gives us the best recommendations,” said Heather, New Yorker.
“I think it was a really good first time experience. I’ve had, I tried a bunch of poutines while I’m here in Montreal, and I think this is the best one,” said one client from Toronto.
“I think the gravy’s really good. I also like how there’s so many different options. It’s also vegetarian friendly and overall, it’s just good, yeah,” said another client from Toronto.
Montreal gem, Schwartz’s smoked meat, also made the list ranked 41st and Montreal was the only Canadian city to make it on Tasteatlas’s list of the 100 best food cities in the world.
“We know I think Montreal is a culinary hotbed, but more so this kind of demonstrates that again. It’s not just for five-star level restaurants, being a great restaurant or legendary restaurant, it just comes down to great food, great quality food, great service, a friendly atmosphere and when you put all that together then, you get the recipe for a huge success,” said White.
