INSPQ lab technicians approve new agreement in principle

By The Canadian Press

Technicians from the Institut national de santé publique have approved the agreement in principle with their employer in Quebec.

The Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux (APTS) announced on Wednesday that their members voted 97 per cent in favour of the agreement – ending a long period of negotiations with their employer. They represent 40 staff members.

Their clients include the healthcare network, universities, private companies, and they are responsible for measuring pollutants and metals, in addition to working with the Quebec Poison Control Centre, and sometimes with international groups.

The president of the local APTS group at the INSPQ, William Molon-Noblot, noted that the agreement “comes after more than 10 months of intensive, sometimes difficult, discussions.”

He said he saw it as “a giant step toward equality with the health and social services network.”

According to the union, their employer offered the technicians the same salary increases that government employees received – 17.4 per cent over five years.
