Montreal police search for man wanted in woman’s attempted murder, kidnapping

By News Staff

Montreal police (SPVM) are asking the public for help to find Abdennour Maalala.

The 26-year-old allegedly kidnapped, confined and attempted to kill a 23-year-old woman in Town of Mount Royal (TMR).

The victim’s vehicle plunged into the Richelieu River early Friday morning.

She was rescued by Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu firefighters and police as the car sank.

The suspect was last seen attempting to swim away from the submerged vehicle.

SPVM  took over the file after witness testimonies led police to believe the Richelieu River incident was linked to a suspected abduction in TMR.

Montreal police were called Friday morning about a woman in her 20s being abducted from a home on Athlone Road.

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police received several 911 calls at around 6:25 a.m. about the river incident.

Abdennour Maala is described as having black hair and brown eyes. At the time of the event, he was wearing black pants, a black coat and red sneakers. He is about 6 feet tall and speaks French and English.

If the suspect is sighted, or anyone has information leading to the whereabouts of Maala, they are asked to call 911.

It is also possible to file an anonymous and confidential report with Info-Crime Montréal at 514-393-1133 or online.

Rewards of up to $3,000 may be awarded by Info-Crime Montréal for information leading to the arrest of suspects. Certain conditions apply.
