English Montreal School Board students of all ages were at Rosemont High School on Friday to help kick off “Ode to Joy – A Celebration of Music.”
This, the theme of their upcoming Kindergarten Registration Week — showing how the magic of song is intertwined into their curriculum.
“It’s a great experience to show off our program,” said Eva Marra, secondary five student at Rosemont. “And what it does for the kids here.”
“Today we’re going to play Ode to Joy for you guys and two other pieces,” explained Marra. “We’re going to show you guys what we can really do.”
Talent filled the auditorium.
Rosemont students from Symphonic Winds – part of their Specialized Music Program – performed alongside Gerald McShane Elementary School’s Choir.
And three other EMSB schools also wowed the crowed:
- Willingdon Elementary
- St. Monica Elementary
- Nesbitt
“The importance of this day is to basically show how important music is,” said Melina Catalano, Arts-études Music Consultant at Rosemont. “Within our school board and our community.”
“I started playing trumpet when I was in grade four at Dante Elementary School,” said Alessio Ciarlariello, secondary four student. “When I came to Rosemont High School I wanted to continue learning the trumpet.”
“And here I am, I’m continuing the trumpet.”
By high school, the EMSB says that their students are equipped with basic music skills and offer opportunities to be in a musical ensemble.
Parents can learn all about this and more at the EMSB’s Kindergarten Registration Week starting Feb. 3rd.
“Enjoy the day,” said Catalano who is also a Rosemont alumni. “It is going to be a fantastic celebration of music.”
“Our teachers make us feel like we can do anything,” added Marra. “It’s just comforting.”
