Gunshot shatters window of day centre in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

The window of a day centre in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough was shattered by a gunshot late Wednesday night – and two suspects were arrested.
Montreal police (SPVM) reports that at least one shot was fired around 11 p.m. and hit the window of Dopamine’s day centre on Sainte-Catherine Street near Joliette.
“When the police arrived on scene, they found that the window of the site was broken and that at least one shell casing was on the ground,” said Manuel Couture, spokesperson for the SPVM.
No one was injured in the shooting, he said.
On Thursday morning, the SPVM had said they were still trying to determine whether the location was the actual target of the gunshot, or whether the bullet could have been fired in the context of a conflict outside before accidentally hitting the window of the site.
Sarah Chouinard-Poirier, coordinator at Dopamine, tells CityNews in an email on Friday morning that, “From what we know so far, the incident has no connection to the organization’s service users or any conflicts among them. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and hope that some light will soon be shed on the circumstances surrounding this event.
Police arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
The two men, aged 24 and 33, will be met by investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
