Gunshot shatters window of supervised injection site in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

By The Canadian Press

The window of a supervised injection site in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough was shattered by a gunshot late Wednesday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) reports that at least one shot was fired around 11 p.m. and hit the window of the site on Sainte-Catherine Street near Joliette.

“When the police arrived on scene, they found that the window of the site was broken and that at least one shell casing was on the ground,” said Manuel Couture, spokesperson for the SPVM.

No one was injured in the shooting, he said.

As of Thursday morning, the SPVM was still trying to determine whether the injection site was the actual target of the gunshot, or whether the bullet could have been fired in the context of a conflict outside before accidentally hitting the window of the site.
