Strike starting tonight by Revenu Québec professionals

By Lia Lévesque, The Canadian Press

A strike by professionals working for Revenu Québec will begin at midnight on the night of Friday to Saturday.

This is an evening and weekend strike, which also foresees that these professionals will limit themselves to working from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday to Friday.

There are 5,850 of them, members of the Syndicat des professionnels du gouvernement du Québec (SPGQ) — a large union independent of the centrals. They work in investigations, taxation, business and individual support, and IT, for example.

The president of the SPGQ, Guillaume Bouvrette, explains that, even though this is an evening and weekend strike, it could have repercussions in several areas.

He notes, for example, that IT updates and system maintenance often take place outside of business hours, so as not to disrupt daily activities. He also gives the example of employee travel on the road, which often takes place outside of business hours. Similarly, checks in bars and restaurants can take place in the evening.

The dispute mainly concerns the indexation of salaries and wage parity clauses, also called trailer clauses.

The management of Revenu Québec did not want to comment.
