A motorist died following an accident that occurred Friday between two vehicles in L’Isle-Verte, in Bas-Saint-Laurent.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers went to Route 132, near Route de la Station, around 4:15 p.m. The driver of a truck apparently veered off course and hit a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

The truck driver was seriously injured, but not life-threatening, in the accident and arrested for impaired driving. A passenger in his vehicle escaped with minor injuries.

The driver of the car that was hit, a woman in her twenties, was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the SQ said.

A blood sample will be taken from the truck driver. The road was still closed at around 7:20 p.m. as police conducted their investigation.
